ARI 1Q profit, revenue rises

ARI Network Services Inc. reported Monday that it recorded increases in both profit and revenue for the fiscal first quarter.

ARI (OTCBB: ARIS) posted net income for the quarter ended Oct. 31 of $243,000, or 4 cents per share, compared with $225,000, or 3 cents per share, for the same period a year ago. Revenue for the Milwaukee provider of electronic parts catalogs and marketing services increased 21 percent to $4.2 million from $3.5 million.

ARI chairman and CEO Brian Dearing said the marketing services business continued to drive revenue growth. About 45 percent of the revenue growth was because of the acquisition of OC-Net Inc., a Cypress, Calif. company that provides Web hosting and e-commerce services, in January 2007.

RIM may become much more of a social smart phone with consumers

So when you want music, do you want to buy hits or do you want to be part of a community? That's the big question."

Competition is one of the main reasons RIM would want to extend the appeal of its products to non-business users.

Apple Inc. (Nasdaq:AAPL), which dominates the digital music player space with its immensely popular iPod, said Thursday it will tweak the iPhone - its big offering in the mobile Internet market - to work better with business e-mail.

The next software update for iPhones will enable them to work with Microsoft Corp.'s Exchange e-mail software, widely used by businesses to handle e-mail.

That will likely pose only a small immediate threat to RIM - already firmly entrenched as the North American leader in business mobile devices and quickly growing its presence globally - but it's aware that more than 2.3 million iPhones were sold during the latest quarter.

Community briefs

This year's recipient is Darcy Terry, owner of Nationwide Insurance on Denbigh Boulevard. Established on that road in 1976, the office recently moved to a new location on the street. There, Terry installed a digital sign reminiscent of the bank sign that graced the intersection of Denbigh and Warwick boulevards for decades.

Carol Lannie, RN, BSN, will give a presentation on "The Birds and Bees for Individuals with Special Needs." Specifically, this is for middle and high school students with disabilities and their parents at the Midtown Community Center, 570 McLawhorne Drive.

Wis. man gets life in wife's poisoning

Mark Jensen trembled slightly as he was told he will never leave prison for suffocating his wife after poisoning her with antifreeze.

"I've come to the conclusion that if I were to impose anything less than the maximum sentence in this case, I'd feel I had cheated the other people because your crime is so enormous, so monstrous, so unspeakably cruel, that it overcomes all other considerations," Judge Bruce Schroeder said Wednesday.

Jensen, 48, was found guilty last week of first-degree intentional homicide, a crime that carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

The judge could have stipulated that Jensen be eligible for parole. Schroeder decided against that option.

Julie Jensen, 40, was found dead in her home in Pleasant Prairie on Dec.

Moves Already

Hopefully Smith will sign and the rumors are true and the 49ers are attempting to sign Lance Briggs. They don't have to wait for the draft to get wide recievers, Javon Walker, Jerome Mathis, Jabar Gaffney are solid recievers who would not be a financial risk on the 49ers becuase I don't see any of the recievers signed last year as showing any more promise than from their original teams. Calvin Pace is out thier who had a great season and plays in the 3-4 scheme which would be a good fit next to Willis. The good thing is that they were able to resign the players they needed without killing thier cap space. Deshaun Foster and Thomas were good pickups becuase they will both be backups and they did not cost that much to sign. Hopefully they sign at least two big names during this offseason. They need some football players in the front seven.
