'Wiki bill' relies on Coloradans to fix I-70 congestion

Colorado Sen. Chris Romer on Friday launched a citizen effort to craft legislation addressing the congestion on Interstate 70.

I-70 is the major east-west artery through Colorado, and on weekends carries thousands of people from the Denver area into the state's ski resort areas.

Romer, D-Denver, calls his effort at involving citizens in the legislative process a "wiki bill," and says it's a first for the country.

The name comes from the online encyclopedia called Wikipedia, which is written and edited by users. A "wiki" is a generic term for a website where users can contribute their ideas.

"My fervent hope is that the collective brain of all of Colorado is at least as powerful as the people in the Capitol," said Romer. "I believe that Colorado's pioneering spirit can solve this problem and fix I-70 now."

Romer's soliciting ideas for his wiki bill online at groups.google.com/group/fixI70now.

HD DVD May Finally Be Dead... Only Three Years Too Late

Then there was MiniDisc, the DVD Recorder, XM Radio. So it's great to see Sony making it's way back at the helm again. I read something about Apple possibly buying Sony. My advice: Go for it.

My only ask is that you bring Carl Yankowski back on board to oversee the Operations Side of the house. Assuming he wants it, that is.

All I'll say is that I can still barely stream YouTube videos on my crappy dsl connection, and when I do I have to stop whatever else I'm doing online until it finishes downloading. While I agree that Internet video is in the future, both the delivery capacity and, more importantly, the mindsets of people who want to own something physical have to change before the optical disc format has to worry.

Ulanoff: Facebook's Death Spiral Has Begun

In other instances, Facebook will create an infinite loop of friendliness where there really isn't any.

I've had a couple of "pokes" on my page for ages. Someone poked me, I poked them back, and that should be the end of it.

But the initial poke remains on my page, so I'm never sure if this is a new poke or a remnant.

It's also hard to delete things like mail, so old messages stick around as if they're fresh. Everything seems more active than it really is.

If all of this doesn't concern Facebook fans, it should.

Any site that needs to resort to creating the illusion of life is clearly heading to a place where this is none.

What Are Your Technological New Year's Resolutions?

I resolve to not use my email box as a primary CRM (customer relationship management) database and make better use the one that I am supposed to employ when managing my contacts. I also resolve to keep to a regular podcasting regiment and make sure that my VOX Daily blog postings at Voices.com are as they say, "daily"! With so much technology around me, for sanity's sake, I resolve to get out of my office at least once each day to enjoy the fresh air and social network more in the classical sense than simply online. I hereby challenge other web companies and entrepreneurs to do the same.

Ghosts in the machine

I mean, remember the golden age when sports stories used to not be about business all the time? Still, to continue, Reznor offered nine of his 36 new instrumental tracks for free, and for a mere $5 you can download them all. Five more dollars and you get a hard copy of the album sent to your home in a few months ... and there was even an extra-limited-edition of 2,500 for $300 that sold out a couple days ago. That's $750,000, just like that.

I drove in for the $5 route in the midst of all nin.com's crashing servers, missed my "one chance," fired off an e-mail to the help desk and ended up having to separately torrent the entire album off piratebay.org online, happy that ol' Rez gets a little scratch anyway. Obviously, the system needs some tweaking. But it was the first time I happily paid for, in essence, nothing.

CHS assistant principal dies in morning wreck

Pritchett broke the news and discussed efforts to meet anticipated counseling needs in a brief meeting with teachers and staff before the start of school. Teachers shared the news of the wreck with students at the start of first period. Social studies teacher and head basketball coach Jeff Cody taught with Findley and described her as a professional who was dedicated to CHS and the students she served."She was a true servant, and that's what made her special," Cody said. "She will be missed."Students also were also shaken by Findley's death. "I think there's a lot of shock," said Student Council President Will Snider. "Nobody expects something like this. She gave us so much support. She was always nice. I never heard a bad word spoken about her among the student body, which is pleasing, considering her role as an assistant principal, which is a tough position."She was always funny and extremely nice to every one of us.

The Problem Is Patent Quality, Not 'Trolls'

A site called Prepaid Reviews reports that four US wireless carriers have been hit with a patent lawsuit from a company called Intellect Wireless. Prepaid Reviews writes that "If Intellect Wireless was a firm that bought patents with the implicit intent of lawsuit, I could talk about the need to reform patent law. But if these are original inventions by Henderson, he has a case." I think this fundamentally misconceives the nature of the "patent troll" problem. The fundamental problem is about patent quality, not about motivations or business strategy of the people abusing the system. Advocates of patent reform like to focus on classic patent trolling firms whose only business is lawsuits because the extortionate nature of the transaction is most obvious in those cases. But if an otherwise-legitimate company gets an overly broad or obvious patent and proceeds to sue everyone in sight, that's still a problem, even if the firm really was the first person to develop a product fitting the description of the patent.

Internet firm cuts racist's Web site

An Internet service company has pulled the plug on its most controversial customer, a Roanoke white supremacist who used his Web site to suggest that six black youths be lynched.

Global Web Solutions cut off service to William A. White on Sunday, after receiving complaints about White's online commentary on the so-called Jena Six case in Louisiana, company owner Randy Armbrecht said Wednesday.

White has since restored the Web site, although not all of the previous links have been updated.

In a posting last week, White published the names and addresses of six black youths charged with assaulting a white classmate in Jena, La., along with the words: "Lynch the Jena 6."

The FBI is investigating whether that broke any laws -- a decision that Armbrecht said he has already made.

San Bruno man founds Church of Reality

SAN BRUNO — Seconds after Marc Perkel's mind had shifted into a higher state of thinking, he had a revelation: The Church of Reality.

Perkel was relaxing alone at home nine years ago when the light bulb went on.

"I was smoking a little weed, and I was thinking about religion," said the now 52-year-old realist. "The name kind of popped in my head. But I had a hard time grasping the idea that no one (had) thought about it. Quite frankly, that aspect (has) never gone away."

The next morning, The Church of Reality was born.

"If it's real, we believe in it," said Perkel, who is self-employed and works in Web hosting and spam filtering. "Anything true will stand up to scrutiny. We're not a faith-based religion. We're doubt-based. The Church of Reality is a new kind of religion."

The American Religious Identification Survey, performed in 2001 by the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, found that the non-believer population at that time comprised roughly 14 percent of Americans.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Jay-Z As Frank Lucas? Rockers Got Jokes? Can't Ban The ...

And to be honest, Lil Wayne did not do the track justice, and didn't come harder than JP and Versatile on that track. 2 fuckin years later he drops "PMW" ! If you wanna check it out you can find it on www.allhiphop.com under Mediazone. The industry is shady!

We, as local artists, have to work 10 times as hard, just to get heard by the industry. And then when you do get heard, 9 out of 10 times we get fucked over. Get ya shit copyrighted, trademarked, and if any Producer gives you a beat in your f**kin' hand and says here it's yours, spit over it. Get it in writing! Between the money we put into the professional recording and mixing of that track, promoting the song, it being played on the hottest radio station on the Gulf Coast, and that whole Miami trip, yeah we got fucked over!

Like I said, "I ain't co-signing s**t!"
