New York Jets Fansite Drops Yahoo Webcam Vulnerability Exploit
Yet another web attack targeting the visitors of a very popular website and the vulnerabilities discovered on their computers. This time, the affected page is a New York Jets fansite, which obviously has a lot of visitors every day. Just like the past attacks, the website has been compromised with an embedded Iframe that attempts to take the visitors on another website, apparently hosted in Estonia. "First, the iFrame (or an obfuscated JavaScript iFrame) contains a redirect to another website .
Charles Stross' dense stories have made him a Singularity sensation
It's the stories we tell each other for amusement and social bonding. I'm skeptical about assigning purpose to an artistic phenomenon, because it's something that, at bottom, we do for fun and communication. (When used for communication it may be used with serious intent, but that's far from being the main purpose of most SF.) Having said that, I do believe it's possible to insert interesting messages in fiction, and because fiction is viewed as a recreational activity this makes it possible to get them across to people who might not otherwise be receptive. It's called propaganda, and it can be used for political, social or religious purposes (for example, C.S. Lewis's Narnia books were explicitly conceived of as vehicles for Christian theology targeted at children of an impressionable age).
UK : Man Admits Plotting To Behead Muslim Soldier
Adam Mussa of the Muslim Brotherhood-founded Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) claimed: "Some of the people arrested are just individuals with loud voices, who are vocal about various neighborhood issues, but that doesn't make them terrorists. It's not fair. This seems to be happening again and again. This is a form of victimization and your average 'Mo Public' is feeling very cynical. When you come in and do a job you should make sure you clean up after yourself, and that's what the police need to do here." The raids happened as there had been intelligence that a cell of British Islamists had planned to kidnap and behead a Muslim soldier. A particular Muslim soldier had already been targeted, and was under protection. It was revealed shortly after the arrests that he was a corporal in military intelligence, chosen from a shortlist of 25 individuals Adam Mussa justified his hostility to the Birmingham raids by ridiculing the notion of such a plot.

DNC: More John McCain Double Talk in CPAC Speech
In fact, at CPAC, Campaign McCain took his do-anything-to-win presidential campaign to new lows, claiming to be a consistent conservative in a speech loaded with double talk on everything from pork spending, to immigration reform, to the Bush tax cuts. McCain bragged about his support for extending the President's reckless tax cuts, but failed to mention that he voted against them. He claimed to have stood by his immigration reform proposal even though he said just last week that he would vote against it if it returned to the Senate floor. And he pledged not to sign any spending bill with earmarks, despite pushing his own earmarks for Arizona while in Congress and relying on one of Washington's most successful pork lobbyists to fund his campaign. "John McCain's politically motivated flip-flops and shameless pandering to the right wing of the Republican Party show why the American people simply cannot trust him to provide the change they are looking for," said Democratic National Committee spokesman Damien LaVera.

-The worst month for sports is what were going through right now. The NBA is hitting the mid-season and there is yet to be any real excitement. You have the NFL that just got over a month ago, and yes, we're all sad because that marks the end of football for another 6-7 months. College Football recruiting is always fun, but we all know that in a sense it is just a waiting game that is boring. We have College Basketball hitting conference schedules real hard which is truely fun to watch, but we then enter the conference tournaments and they mean nothing. MLB isen't even heard of in this month, and NASCAR has qualifying on the week before Daytona. Isen't that just interesting. The month of February is a complete let-down. This month is almost worthless in the world of sports. I mean, the NBA season may be shaping up, but there is another 40 games to be played.
Oscar Viewers Got Clipped, In More Ways Than One
It happens that the Coen Brothers got their start in the movie business with help and support from Jim and Ted Pedas, Washington real estate investors who owned the beloved Circle Theater on Pennsylvania Avenue in the '50s, '60s and '70s. It has since been torn down and an ugly office building erected in its space. The Coens generally make cynical, gloomy movies, with the exception of the breakneck comedy "Raising Arizona." There were several references to the recent strike by the Writers Guild of America, which, if it had continued, might have meant canceling the 80th Oscars altogether or putting on a much reduced and postponed show later in the year. Actually, that might have been a pleasant change and a blessed relief from the bloated show and the effusive windbags making speeches that Americans endure annually, even as the number of other awards shows on television has grown exponentially.
Two 'Vagina' productions raise awareness, amuse
This time of year, dreams of love and talk of fairy-tale romance fill the frigid air. But some women around town will be taking a more anatomic approach to this weekend: They'll be talking about their vaginas. Sponsored by the Black Caucus, a group of female students will present The Vagina Monologues at 8 tonight, Friday and Saturday in Schwab Auditorium. A group of State College women will also perform the monologues at 7 p.m. Sunday at the State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave. Students at Penn State have performed The Vagina Monologues for the past nine years on campus, but this will be the first year the performance will take place downtown. Local resident Valerie Jarrett will be producing the downtown performance. She said she first participated in the performance in 2004 in Colorado and has wanted to produce it here ever since she moved to State College.
