A year later, Chief Illiniwek debate remains at U. Illinois

Other University traditions have not been retired along with the Chief. The traditional music that was played when the Chief was the symbol is still played by the Marching Illini during halftime of sporting events at the University.

"There are people who say there's too much expression of the Chief Illiniwek still," said Tom Hardy, executive director for University relations. "They don't want him on homecoming parades, and they would change performance music from the band that pre-dates Chief Illiniwek because they associate it with the Chief."

Miranda Jimenez, junior in LAS, said she feels that using the traditional music of the Chief is encouraging people to hold on to the negative ideology the Chief represented.

"I think (the music) evokes the same ideologies of having a person perform traditional dances, and that's offensive," Jimenez said.

Jennifer Lopez Works Hard, But Not For the Money

I have every one of her albums & I like most of her movies. I do own one of her perfumes, but the others are not so yummy to me.

That being said, I think it's laughable when any rich celeb says they are not doing "it" for the money, but just to be creative. In Jenny's defense, she did say "I've been lucky that because of what I do as a performer, I've also been able to do stuff like fragrances that I love." Maybe what she should have said was "I've got more money than God, so I can afford to try the fragrance thing, as a different creative outlet, & if it fails, I'm still super rich so no harm done! If it succeeds, then I'll make even more money & yippee--I got to be creative!" I think that's more likely what all the celebs mean when they say stuff like that. I think it would be refreshing if/when one of them actually does make that kind of blunt statement.

New spin doctor to help Alexander’s fightback

Labour leader Wendy Alexander's fightback continued yesterday with the appointment of her latest spin doctor and the support of former First Minister Henry McLeish.

But both developments were to a degree undermined by the new aide's lack of Holyrood or political experience, and Mr McLeish's frank views on Labour's recent difficulties.

Yesterday's top story: Palladium stars as investors focus on future ...

The report said an 'impressive wave of funds' had moved into the metal's two ETFs since last November and the funds saw a further increase in February.

However, the trend in positions in Nymex platinum futures was an 'atypical near inverse relationship to the price', with net longs declining by almost 270,000 ounces (or 36%) from their recent peak in January.

The report said this was suggestive of Nymex speculators taking profits in February, in part selling into strong demand from ETF investors.

Platinum Technical Analysis

Standard Bank advised reduced long positions in platinum as the 'bull trend' has reached the $2,150 level and there were currently no further upside projections. (Although the metal price is now around $100 higher than this level.)

The report said the move off the $2,192 high was threatening the sustainability of the bull trend from a near term perspective and the bank now took a mildly bearish view.
