Automated Parking Garage Solutions Hold Key To Urban Development

Today's leading urban planners and downtown developers are rethinking their allegiance to single-use zoning practices and focusing on building communities in order to create neighborhoods in which people can live, socialize, shop, and perhaps even work - all within a comfortable walking distance.

While large suburban yards were recently the sought-after American ideal, today, high gas and petrol prices make living close to friends, neighbors, social activities, and public transportation more attractive than suburban scrawl. High-density living naturally reduces household gasoline usage without crimping personal freedom or creating feelings of undue sacrifice.

The Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) is a multidisciplinary organization in which urban planners, real estate developers, architects, builders, suppliers and others work together to solve land use problems with a heavy emphasis toward mixed use developments.

Dylan descends on Dallas House of Blues

Bob Dylan's music seems to have always been a part of contemporary American life, yet so little is known about him.

The 66-year-old singer/songwriter, who rose to prominence on a wave of a cultural revolution in the mid-'60s, made an art out of toying with the press early on. Unwilling to reveal much of himself or his creative process, Dylan delighted in non sequiturs and folding questions back upon themselves during interviews from that heady era.

Then he withdrew from the spotlight in the '70s and spent much of the decade reeling from a series of personal trials. Dylan was almost reclusive, resisting any attempt to lift the veil of mystery surrounding his music. It remains true today as most new interviews with Dylan seem like exercises in futility, round-robins of insightful queries and opaque responses.

Hearts fan chief urges caution over match boycott plans

I can understand people's frustrations because I feel the same way myself but I don't believe that boycotts are the way to go. Even at the height of the Save our Hearts campaign I didn't support them because I believe that all they serve to do is divide the fans."Despite Watson's reservations though, the plans have been getting backing from a number of fans on the website, with one poster suggesting: "We want a manager to be given 100 per cent control of footballing operations. We want a protest against this random team selection, substitutions and tactical nonsense that are self-destructing Hearts."If we were all to choose not to go to one match to show our disapproval with this method of madness, then why not the Gretna match on February 9?"If the attendance was so low it might just implant a seed of doubt into Vlad's mind that all is not well."Meanwhile as .

When the Internet Is My Hard Drive, Should I Trust Third Parties?

It's been active since 2000, and its database of back posts and comments is a wealth of information: tasting notes, restaurant recommendations, stories and so on. Late last year someone hacked the board software, got administrative privileges and deleted the database. There was no backup.

Of course the board's owner should have been making backups all along, but he has been very sick for the past year and wasn't able to. And the Internet Archive has been only somewhat helpful.

More and more, information we rely on -- either created by us or by others -- is out of our control. It's out there on the internet, on someone else's website and being cared for by someone else. We use those websites, sometimes daily, and don't even think about their reliability.

Bits and pieces of the web disappear all the time.

Product Recalls

Two major fast-food chains, Jack-In-the-Box and In-N-Out, said they would not use beef from Westland/Hallmark.

The recall affects beef products dating back to February 1, 2006.

Most of the beef has been eaten and officials say it's unlikely the remaining beef is tainted. No illness has been reported, but it wasn't properly inspected and therefore is unfit for human consumption.

BASSETTBABY CRIB RECALL

Wendy Bellissimo cribs from Babies 'R' Us bought since November are being recalled.

The spindles on the drop-side of the crib could come loose, leaving a gap that could potentially trap and strangle a child.

The company is voluntarily recalling the cribs and no injuries have been reported.

Two murders and two life sentences won't alter one convict's ...

Nothing says "I love you" like fork-tongued thrash metal. That's why, just in time for V-Day, we bring you the romantic saga of Dallas-based Damageplan, the new noise gods on the block formed by guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul, formerly of Pantera. With Pat Lachman on vocals, Bob Zilla on bass and, we figure, Lucifer on cow bell, Damageplan has recorded New Found Power, a full-length that came out February 10 on Elektra. It's filled with valentines such as "Soul Bleed" and "Fuck You," which features the sly seduction: "Fuck this, all of this/Bitch and moan and piss." Awwww. I think we can agree that New Found Power is the perfect Valentine's Day gift, especially if your lover prefers switchblades to Cupid's little arrows. After all, what's a dozen roses when you could give her "Blunt Force Trauma" (track 12)? Gosh, honey, you shouldn't have.

Rawlings-The Idi Amin of Ghana.

On Monday February 11, Mr. Bernard Manu, wrote a piece posted on Ghana web with the caption Much ado about Rawlings". He raised several interesting points which, I believe, require far more thoughtful analysis than the feeble attempt by the author. First and foremost, those of us who are seeking justice for the many victims of Rawlings are not on a warpath to "pull him down-PhD", as Mr. Manu puts it. No one is pulling Mr. Rawlings down. We are demanding a measure of justice for the thousand of victims who met their ultimate fate in the wake of Rawlings' misguided junta. Rawlings and his men massacred thousands of Ghanaians with impunity. Remember that some of those generals, who were massacred by Rawlings' AFRC thugs, had constitutional protection from any prosecution. Their constitutional protection meant very little to their murderous intentions.

Day Of Reckoning Arrives For DP Blog

1)We need some formatting to be allowed in our posts. Every post currently looks like a big RUN-ON SENTENCE.

2)This is separate matter from Liz's new blog software, but that stupid "News, Sport, Gossip" etc. bar above Liz's photo (and on every page at the DN) looks out of place and hopelessly OUTDATED. It's ugly. Plus it gets even uglier when I have to increase the font size on the DP to read things and it goes all out of wack. The DN's recently hired web guru needs to do some serious remodeling on that bar of links...and a lot of other stuff to to mane the DN look at least Web 2.0.

3)I don't mind a captcha, but I too (like Galt, I assume) am having a little trouble reading it. The black on gray is difficult to see. Maybe something could be done to help us old farts who wear glasses and are going blind trying to read the captcha.

Last Call: Tessera up on lawsuit update

The stay was granted at the request of the respondents, which include Motorola Inc., Qualcomm Inc., Freescale Semiconductor and ATI Technologies, a unit of Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

Tessera shares added $1.59, or 11.5 percent, to $15.41 in afternoon trading.

Over the last year, the stock has traded between $11.11 and $46.43.
