Seven months after Bob Caldwell became a widower, the next chapter in his life unfolded quickly. He placed his home and two acres of land in Bowie on the market, setting in motion a major change in lifestyle. "I took a contract on the Bowie house Sept. 15, began house hunting in Baltimore on Sept. 18, bought this house the next day and settled on Oct. 1," said Caldwell, 56, a warehouse supervisor for Giant Food in Jessup. That two-week whirlwind brought Caldwell a two-story, brick rowhouse on Fort Avenue in South Baltimore's Locust Point, landing him back in the city where he grew up and visited regularly to see friends and attend Ravens games. .

Pac-10 Notebook: Beavers face punishment
EXTRA CREDIT: While dumb and dumber best describes Oregon State's recent actions, no one is questioning the intelligence level of the Oregon basketball team, which has a current graduation rate way off the charts. Three senior starters, forwards Malik Hairston and Maarty Leunen and guard Bryce Taylor, received their diplomas last summer -- a full year ahead of schedule. Reserves Mitch Platt and Ray Schaefer joined them as fifth-year seniors graduating on time. Add to that junior forward Churchill Odia, who will complete his college requirements at the end of the current winter quarter. "No one else in the country has got that," coach Ernie Kent said, referring to the five college grads on the active roster. "We have great seniors. We have great parents. We told them when they came in this would help their NBA careers." Kent wasn't giving them an idle sales pitch about receiving a fast-track education while maintaining pro basketball possibilities.
MyStore.com Announces It's 'Open' for Business and Challenges Others ...
LAS VEGAS, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- "There have been many announcements lately from companies claiming they have, or are, an "open" network. But try and use your applications or any third party widget or gadget on them. The fact is, they are only open if you are willing to learn and invest in developing applications using their technology or if your widgets or gadgets meet their requirements," stated Todd Meagher CEO of yourStore, LLC and MyStore.com. "The truth is most of these networks offer a restricted 'open' platform within their network. It's like saying everyone will be admitted free after paying at the gate. Or, every credit application will be accepted. Open should mean open." Today yourStore, LLC announced its MyStore.com social marketplace will accept applications, widgets and gadgets from just about anyone using just about any technology with minimal restrictions.

The ‘First Woman,’ Once Again
It is noteworthy that in January 2007, when Mrs. Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama declared their intention to seek the Oval Office, the top six circulating newspapers in the U.S. ran 59 articles with Mr. Obama in the headline and just 36 with Mrs. Clinton. Now that we have had a female presidential candidate who entered the race as a front-runner, I have to wonder if the next one will also be regarded as a "first." Even if, after 130 years of women running for president, we are finally ready to shed this label, my guess is that the novelty frame will persist. If one of the next presidential candidates should happen to be a woman and she is not framed as "the first" woman to run, she will surely be touted as the "only" woman in the race. However, either would be a shame, because women in politics should by now be regarded as normal, not strange.
